Inspiration Silent Auction

Inspiration Silent Auction

Earlier this year the Whalley family offered me the exceptional privilege of holding a one-man show of my glass sculpture at Birtley House. The exhibition is called Inspiration in the Garden and the title piece is called Inspiration. You can watch a film made by Luke Whatley-Bigg about the exhibition here.

Inspiration is a substantial sculpture. It is a collaborative work that I have been developing based on my “Boundaries” series of sculptures. My friend Mary Branson, the installation artist has acted as an unofficial mentor to the project.

So far, I have asked more than forty people to donate a word that inspires them. These words form part of the sandblast engraved decoration of the piece. I liked the idea of asking people to make a donation that wasn’t financial, to help create a piece that would raise funds for our chosen charity the Halow Project.

A diverse group of people have donated these words – artists and sculptors whom I admire, as well as members of my family, long standing friends and of course members of my team, past and present.

If you are not familiar with the Halow Project, click here  to see their website. They support young people with learning difficulties and work closely with Birtley House in giving them outdoor work experience.

I have donated my “Inspiration” sculpture to a silent auction for the HALOW project. If you would like to place a bid, please email Adam with your details and your bid.

It is very exciting to be able to announce that the current bid stands at £1,500 Bids will be accepted in increments of £100 so the next bid would be £1,600 and so on.

For guidance, similar sculptures are usually priced at £2,400 but we hope to raise considerably more than this sum for the Halow Project.
