“This piece was almost impossible to make. I had many attempts and they all ended up in a heap on the floor! Building a structure from so many individual hot glass blown elements requires a team of assistants, choreography, skill and concentration and there are so many variables of temperature and timing that one false move means the whole piece is lost. Even if the sculpture gets as far as the annealing oven, there is a risk that the stresses of multiple colours and thicknesses cause the piece to crack. But when everything comes together, the result is amazing and this is one of my best pieces ever.”
