Description
Make a Tumbler Glassblowing Short Taster Course
At Adam Aaronson’s glassmaking studio in West Horsley, Surrey, this glassblowing short taster course is an exciting and intensive experience. We’ve planned it to introduce beginners to the wonders of hot glass. You don’t need to have any experience as you will be guided every step of the way. Courses generally take place on Friday mornings a couple of times a month. Usually we publish the dates on the calendar below around four weeks in advance. If there is a particular Friday date not yet shown in, please feel free to contact us to see whether it is likely to be available. There are also sometimes taster courses on Friday afternoons and from time to time at weekends.
If you would prefer to purchase a gift voucher and book later see here
We also have regular Christmas Bauble Courses from November to December where you can blow your own Christmas baubles. See here
Choice of pieces to make
You can choose on the day which piece to make. You can make a tumbler, bowl or vase.
Details
Our glassblowing short taster course lasts around 90 minutes and generally caters for up to 8 people. All safety equipment and materials are provided but please wear covered shoes and clothing suitable for a workshop environment.
We start each session with a safety briefing. Then Adam Aaronson gives a demonstration showing the method that each person will use to make the item of their choice, with assistance from Adam and one of his assistants, Will, Candice, Gina, Katie or Sammy.
Next, choose your colours and style and work in turn on an individual basis with Adam and his assistant to create your unique piece.
We adapt to each individual’s ability, giving you more or less assistance as required. This event is great fun to do on your own or together with a group of family and friends.
Photographs
You will probably take lots of photographs, during our glassblowing short taster course. So don’t forget to charge up your camera or your phone! Do post them on instagram with the hashtag #adamaaronsonglass. Here is a link to our instagram page
Your glass creation needs to anneal in a kiln overnight. Our team will then grind and polish the base before signing it with your name, so usually you can collect your work on the following Friday. We can arrange delivery to a UK address. This usually costs £15 including packing and packaging materials. On occasions if your piece is larger or particularly fragile, the delivery cost may be more.
If you would like to make more than one item, just book two or more spaces.
Our Short Taster Courses are suitable for children aged 9 and older, accompanied by an adult.
You can now book online below using our course calendar. If you have any questions please call us on 01483 375035 or email adam@adamaaronson.com.
We also have longer, more intensive, beginners’ glassblowing courses almost every weekend – see here.
If you have a short taster course voucher you can use this towards a half day course and pay the balance if you prefer. You can also use a bauble course voucher towards the taste course and pay the balance. You need to email us to arrange the upgrade as the website only registers the voucher against the exact course it relates to.
